Hugh LeCaine

is the physicist, composer, and inventor whom many believe to have been one of the pioneers responsible for refining the invention of the synthesizer, and the multi-track tape recorder.  Although his instruments were never commercially manufactured, his hands-on, performance-oriented approach to design was way ahead of its time, and no doubt had a major influence on his contemporaries.   His two best known inventions were "The Electronic Sackbut" (1945) and the "Sonde" (1948).
