Julie Payette

is the much decorated, Montreal-born astronaut who flew on the Space Shuttle Discovery from May 27 to June 6, 1999 as part of the crew of STS-96.  Julie Payette is also quite knowledgeable in the field of computing, with speech recognition, and processing as her strong points.  She had to endure rigorous training to prepare for her work with NASA, including learning Russian, and 120 hours of zero gravity flight exercises. Julie Payette has also logged over 800 hours of flight time, and is certified as a one atmosphere diving suit operator.
