Steppenwolf

Although John Kay was born in Germany, it was when living in Toronto in the late 60s' that  he joined a band called The Sparrow, a short-lived project which would eventually turn into one of the most iconic rock groups of the era.  John had moved to L.A. and was asked by label ABC-Dunhill Records  to form a new band.  He hired Sparrow drummer and keyboardist Jerry Edmonton and Goldy McJohn, and with the addition of Michael Monarch on guitar and Rushton Moreve on bass, Steppenwolf was born.  The band, whose name comes from the famous Hermann Hesse novel, went on to release over 35 albums, and are still touring today.  Their best known song is perhaps "Born To Be Wild", which was featured on the soundtrack to Easy Rider, and  is now considered a classic Rock Anthem.
