Pierre Trudeau |
||
| was perhaps the most highly respected and visible of all Canadian Prime Ministers. The charismatic, enigmatic, and sexy PM was known for his sometimes controversial views and his incredible sense of style and theatrics. Always one to make headlines in both the serious publications and the tabloids; he drove sports cars, did pirouettes behind the Queen's back during a visit to Buckingham Palace, and was also known for the trademark rose he always wore on his lapel. He dated Barbara Streisand, Margot Kidder, and Liona Boyd, he later married Margaret Sinclair, considered by many to be Canada's answer to Jackie O. He was also a friend to media guru Marshal McLuhan, and is believed by some to have inspired the phrase: "The Medium is the Message". On the political side of things, Liberal Party leader Pierre Elliott Trudeau introduced many important changes such as Wage and Price Controls, the Canadian Charter of Rights, and he was also responsible for the repatriation of the Canadian Constitution in 1982. Pierre Trudeau died on September 28, 2000, at the age of 81, and was mourned the world over. | ![]() |
